The Inn
Victorian Style
Honeymoon Mansion, built in 1850, is reminiscent of the Gone With the Wind era. It invites you to step back into the past. Its hand carved crown molding, marble columns, stained glass windows, brass chandeliers, hardwood floors, fireplace, and balcony capture the quiet charm enjoyed by Scarlet O'Hara and Rhett Butler.
Come stay awhile and let innkeepers Landon and Janet Caldwell pamper you with some good, old-fashioned Southern hospitality!
History
Listed on the National Register of Historic homes as the Ferry-Green House, this Victorian- Italianate was built in 1850 by Levi Ferry. Ferry was a wealthy businessman who made most of his fortune insuring the cargo that traveled up and down the Ohio. He had seven children and they lived here for nearly thirty years. Sue Green, who was a great niece to Florence Nightingale, was the next known owner. She lived here for about forty years. While living in New Albany, she followed in the footsteps of her famous relative and headed the local American Red Cross. The mansion was eventually converted to apartments and existed that way for nearly thirty years. The last use before renovation was the home of New Life Ministries.
In 1985 major renovation and restoration began. It would take nearly two long years to bring the mansion back to life and resemble its former glory. It was opened as a bed and breakfast in late 1986. Landon and Janet purchased the property and business in May 2002. Their ambitious energies have led them to do major upgrades to the building. A large deck, fishpond, landscaping, new (old) furnishings and lots and lots of paint helped revitalize and once again breathe color and personality to this Victorian beauty.
